Gilts and boars all have to undergo a quarantine phase. The purpose of this:
This space must be independent and on the outskirts of the livestock buildings (at least 30 to 50 metres away) with direct access allowing delivery of animals from off the farm and, if possible, located perpendicular to the direction of the prevailing winds.
The size of the quarantine area and the number of stalls should be suited to the number of animals. The minimum surface area on full slatted floors is 1.25 m² per animal and 1.8 m² on straw. The quarantine duration is at least 5 weeks with a strict observation phase of at least 10 days.
